Do you need immediate assistance after an emergency or hospital stay? Respite care is a form of assisted living designed to help you and your senior loved ones manage a crisis but can also be incorporated as part of a comprehensive plan for retirement care. Here is why many families opt for customized respite care that is tailored to their individual needs.
Emergency Care
If you are the primary caregiver for a senior loved one, you may feel understandably anxious about your options in case of an emergency. An elderly relative’s medical and emotional needs can change daily, and even your own busy lifestyle can be unpredictable. If you have an unforeseen circumstance that requires your immediate attention, you deserve to have a respite care provider to help you manage the crisis and provide reliable, efficient assistance.
Post-Surgery Stay
Has your elderly relative recently required a major hospital stay? Sometimes, the medical obligations of senior care simply exceed your capacity as caregiver. An assisted living community that specializes in short-term respite care can ensure that your loved one gets the medical attention she needs directly from a qualified nurse. This valuable resource makes it possible for you to attend to your other career and personal obligations without worrying about your loved one.
Much Needed Relaxation
While respite care can alleviate the strain of an emergency situation, it is also a positive way to provide a much-needed vacation for seniors and caregivers alike. Providing care for your loved one can put stress on both parties, and a respite resort stay that is tailored to suit each guest’s needs can serve as a welcome reprieve. Furnished apartments with televisions, full-service kitchens, and extra amenities make respite care a comfortable and rewarding option.

Dementia is a general term for a loss of mental abilities that is significant enough to interfere with a person’s daily life and tasks. Memory loss is one example of dementia, and Alzheimer’s disease accounts for 60 to 80 percent of all cases. Symptoms of dementia can vary greatly, but sufferers must experience severe impairment in at least two core mental functions. These functions include memory, communication, ability to focus, reasoning, and visual perception. It is important to note that there are many causes of memory problems in seniors, and some of them are reversible if the underlying condition is treatable.
Here at Carlton Senior Living, our caretakers specialize in memory and dementia care. Our San Jose, Sacramento, Fremont, and San Leandro facilities have been family-owned and operated for more than 20 years, and our retirement communities are dedicated to empowering residents by providing the customized assistance they need. Call us at (888) 431-7163 today to learn more.

The Residents of Carlton Plaza San Leandro came together and planted a variety of different flowers and vegetables in our courtyard. We started with an empty bed and now have a full beautiful garden. It was so amazing to see how they all came together to help each other, and the sense of pride was undeniable. They all agreed that from today on the garden club slogan will be "Gardening for the soul."And I can't think of anything more appropriate.

Carlton Senior Living’s assisted living and retirement communities consistently get high marks for providing superior dementia care and a comfortable, customized living environment. As you will learn in this video, owner Tom McDonald attributes his Northern California communities’ success to his employees.
McDonald explains that his employees truly love what they do, and his business model encourages all community members to work together as a team. When he hires new caretakers, he looks for a “caring gene,” or a natural proclivity for providing friendly and compassionate care.
At Carlton Senior Living’s regular barbecues and events, you can often find Tom McDonald dancing with senior community members. Call us today at (888) 431-7163 to find out more about our daily activities to keep your loved ones mentally and physically fit in retirement.
